Welcome!
February 17, 2006

Welcome to the launch of Lonestar Music Services! To kick things off I would like to address the most important aspect of the music business, THE MUSIC. It doesn't matter how expensive your press kit is, who re-mixed your song, what bling and blang you got on, or if you have a major label deal for a million dollars. What it really comes down to is empathy from the fans. If they can sing along with your songs and, more importantly, identify with YOU as an artist, that is what will give you a long lasting career. I'm sure all artists out there will agree that the only reason they put up with the bull@#@ from the industry is to see and hear an audience, in the same room, at the same time, singing their lyrics back to them. Album sales are great, it is tangible evidence that there are people out there sharing your vision. But even in this technological world where anything can be digitally replicated, can you copy the emotion of being in the same room with an artist that inspires you? That is why the live show is so important. It is a showcase for the artist to see and FEEL what songs are a hit and what flops with a live audience. The 'vibe' has been created by humans, not a machine or a computer (ok, ok, except for the Gorillaz but I, for one, would take 5 seconds of Prince live to an hour of the Gorillaz any day!).
Well, there's my first rant. In future columns I hope to bring you more practical knowledge on how to earn and maintain a profitable income to augment your dreams in the business of music. I might have some guest columnists as well, stay tuned! Please feel free to comment, disagree or put forth your own thoughts.
Thanks!
